The other day we had someone in the house who without knowing offered Boscoe a table scrap treat! I swear I almost lunged across the room shouting NOOOOO... probably wasn't that dramatic but certainly felt like it.
This prompted me to realize (especially with a 15 year old and her friends) that we cant educate everyone.. and we cant be with Boscoe 24/7. So the Martha Stewart in my took a photo of Boscoe and added some text in Adobe Illustrator with a note that says " Please don't feed me or leave food on the floor as I have a paralyzed esophagus and can choke. Thank you for keeping me safe! Boscoe". I had sent my husband a text and asked him to pick up a nice frame for me, for those who dont really know me I take pictures often.. so I dont think he thought anything of this request.. but you should have seen his face when I put my work of art in a frame.. and asked him to hang it like a freaking Picaso above his bailey chair in the kitchen. It looks nice and serves as a educational warning for guests.
Also I have to give props where they are due.. My husband puts up with alot in general. Since the dog has been diagnosed and I have been 100% focussed on his recovery and management my husband has REALLY put up with a lot.. And 99% of the time with a smile on his face. So when he agreed to finish Boscoes chair so it matched the kitchen cupboards, add leather backing so it looked like the kitchen chairs I knew I was a lucky lady but when he spent the time cutting a doggie place mat for my furry lil' boy I knew that I have the best husband in the world. ( I did already know it but seems only right to add it now as emphasis for dramatic effect) Thanks Kevin. The chair looks awesome and Boscoe is comfortable but most importantly fashionable.. Nate Berkus eat your heart out.. I see a line of custom bailey chairs in our future if we ever loose our jobs. :-)
And just for the record I didn't pose Boscoe like that! This is au natural.. he looks at me with utter contempt until the timer goes off at the 30 minute mark.
As for Boscoe's status he is doing well. He is over the AP.. and behaving much more like his old self. He is snoring way more and way louder but otherwise seems to have recovered. I am continuing his regime of Homeopathic meds and probiotics to build up his internal systems.I am also found a new potential food for him from "Honest Kitchen" http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/
At The Honest Kitchen, they make dehydrated, human-grade natural dog food so I am thinking of giving it a try to add more calories and to take away the processed foods all together.
Boscoe-Diary of a dog with Megaesophagus
This blog is a diary of my dear dog Boscoe and how I am managing his new diagnosis of Megaesophagus and his special needs. Boscoe's whole life as he knows it has been turned upside down. No more eating when he wants, no more treats, he probably wonders why Mommy holds him for 30 minutes after each meal and why is she crying. This blog is is a chronicle of how I will continue to ensure he is happy, healthy, loved and pain free.

Alitle voodoo never hurt anyone.. our start with Homeopathic remedies and other crazy stuff
So in my quest to save my dog I have done tons of research. In fact I think I could be a vet now except for the whole mental breakdowns and crying fits everytime something goes wrong with my Boscoe... so I will stick to my current job....
My research is leading me down many paths and putting me in contact with some amazing people, some who I have mentioned in previous posts.
As I search the web for information I have come across many people who have helped their dogs through homeopathic remedies, distance healing, acupuncture and other strange voodoo rituals. Since Boscoe's chair is being stained (yes I said stained, so it matches my kitchen and doesn't look like a hunk of wood and of course the main reason is so Boscoe feels part of the family with his matching furniture) I have been holding him for the 30 minutes after he eats. While I hold him I search through websites and read him the information I found. Now I cant say for sure but I think when I read him about the pet psychics he may have actually laughed ( or burped but I prefer to believe his laughed). He must think I am nutters doing all this research.
But it wasn't all laughs.. I did find some very useful information.
I found this neat site called gentlecarepet.com it had some really interesting information some I believe in some I don't but regardless they had a wonderful line of products of natural first aid remedies.
So I did an online wellness assessment filled in all of Bosoce's current ailments and his history and within a day received a detailed analysis of what products might benefit him. After I checked contradictions with his medicines and found none I figured it couldn't hurt to try them.
1. WildPets Cough, Flu & Lung Formula Plus for the coughing/pneumonia symptoms.
2. WildPets BIO Defense is a natural antibiotic, and unlike chemical antibiotics it also works on viruses and does not harm good stomach bacteria if use according to label directions. Chemical antibiotics do not work on viruses and many respiratory infection stem from viruses (primary infection) and later bacteria (secondary infection). Also, chemical antibiotics are like a double edged sword, it helps killing germs on one hand, it further weakens and knocks the body out of balance on the other. You can avoid the side effects by using the natural antibiotics.
3. As far as a supplement goes, the best is our WildPets BIO Booster 4-in-1 which is a well rounded nutritional supplement, gentle detox, immune builder and pH balancer all in one. As a supplement, it supplies life supporting amino acids, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, trace minerals and antioxidants. Many of our clients are on this supplement now and so am I (human). This remedy is available under our Custom Pet Remedies menu. You can select the bottle size based on weight.
So tonight I started these. I will keep track of his progress as we move forward. I am sure he actually scoffed at me when he found out the fed ex package didn't contain a new Kong or that stylish Burberry pro collar he has had his eyes on... but rather more little vials of doggy voodoo..
As you can imagine for 9 years Boscoe at hard kibble then one night after his terrifying night at the vet he all of a sudden gets his bowls taken away and a plate of slop put on a ladder (this was before the chair) so he was less than pleased. Finally I think I found the answer to getting him to GOBBLE up his slop (even though I plate the slop beautifully there is no fooling him... it is still slop)
Our new favorite product is Crumps Liver Sprinkles. Its an all natural 100% beef liver that is dried and ground to a fine consistency (so no fear of him choking on it). The best part they are made from 100% Canadian , federally inspected beef liver..HE LOVES IT! and it provides extra protein for him.
So for now .. I am open to anything...voodoo an ancient wellness dance.. you name it I will do it if it will help my boy..
